Key Challenge : King Khalid University (KKU), located in the south-western highlands of Saudi Arabia near the Yemeni border, is one of the Kingdom's largest and most prestigious institutions of higher education. As part of the university's expansive multi-phase development, the Ministry of Higher Education initiated a major campus expansion project covering a total built-up area of 352,141 square metres. This included the construction of 7 university buildings comprising 4 medical colleges (College of Medicine, Medical Science, Dentistry, and Pharmacy), a 400‑bed teaching hospital, and 2 dedicated lecture hall buildings.

The university required a comprehensive seating solution for its new auditoriums, lecture halls, and conference facilities. The challenge was threefold :

1. Scale & Diversity — Seating had to accommodate multiple venue types, from large tiered lecture halls to intimate conference rooms and seminar spaces.
2. Durability — With thousands of students passing through daily, the seating needed to withstand extreme usage while maintaining comfort and appearance.
3. Climate Considerations — Abha's high-altitude climate, while milder than other parts of Saudi Arabia, still required materials resistant to temperature fluctuations and UV exposure.
4. Aesthetic Integration — The seating had to complement the university's modern architectural vision, as the campus was designed by Zuhair Fayez Partnership, a leading Saudi architectural firm.

The seating was installed across multiple buildings in coordination with the construction schedule. FLYA managed all logistics — from manufacturing and quality control to shipping and on‑site installation supervision — ensuring zero disruption to the university's academic calendar.

Solution : FLYA furniture partnered with the university's project team to design, manufacture, and install a comprehensive seating package across multiple campus venues :

Large Lecture Halls (2 buildings) — FLYA supplied 1,200+ tiered auditorium chairs featuring ergonomic high‑back design, high‑density cold‑cured moulded foam cushioning, and durable steel frames with anti‑corrosion coating. Each chair is equipped with a foldable writing tablet for note‑taking and a quiet‑action tip‑up mechanism for easy cleaning and maintenance between sessions.
Medical College Auditoriums — 800+ specialised chairs with integrated power outlets and data ports to support digital learning and medical presentations. The upholstery features stain‑resistant, easy‑clean fabric suitable for healthcare education environments.
Conference & Seminar Rooms — 400+ premium conference chairs with ergonomic contours, premium upholstery, and integrated connectivity for hybrid learning and international symposiums.
