Key Challenge : Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), established in 2003 under the Gujarat National Law University Act, is one of India's premier institutions dedicated to legal education and research. Consistently ranked among the top five national law universities in India, GNLU's 50-acre green campus in Gandhinagar's Knowledge Corridor is home to over a thousand students and serves as a hub for academic conferences, guest lectures, moot court competitions, and convocation ceremonies
At the heart of the university's infrastructure lies its main auditorium — widely regarded as one of the finest auditoriums in the region. With a seating capacity of 900, it is the university's premier venue for high-profile events, including the annual convocation, international legal symposia, judicial conferences, and cultural programmes.
However, after years of continuous use, the auditorium's original seating had begun to show significant signs of wear. The fabric upholstery was fading and deteriorating, cushion resilience had diminished, and mechanical components in the tip-up mechanisms were becoming unreliable. For an institution that regularly hosts distinguished guests — including sitting judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts, legal luminaries, and international delegations — the aging seating no longer reflected the university's stature as a leader in legal education.
Solution : FLYA furniture was selected to supply and install a comprehensive seating solution for GNLU's main auditorium, along with additional furniture for seminar halls and conference rooms across the campus. The FLYA solution included:
1. 300 ergonomically designed auditorium chairs — engineered with high-back contours to provide full lumbar and shoulder support during extended academic sessions, conferences, and convocation ceremonies
2. High-density cold-cured moulded foam cushioning — ensuring long-lasting comfort and shape retention even after years of daily use by thousands of students and visitors
FLYA managed the entire process from custom manufacturing to professional installation, working closely with the university's facilities team to minimise disruption to the academic calendar. The installation was scheduled during the university's internship break — a two-month period between academic terms when students are away on practical training — ensuring zero interference with classes and examinations.
